*Cries*

I just learned that James Doohan the man who played Lt. Cmdr. Montgomery Scott in the original Star Trek died today...the cause of death was pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease, he was 85.

All fans had their favorite character...Scotty was mine. The chief geek in a show for geeks. You will be missed.

*sounds of Amazing Grace on the bagpipes*

I met him at a Star Trek convention along with Janice "Yeoman" Rand when I was about 15 years old, I think (1976). I lived and breathed the show and meeting these two (I was supposed to meet Sulu, but something happened) was one of the highlights of my teenage years.

Scotty is my favorite too.

I hear James Doohan was a great guy too.

I'm a sad, sad Trekkie.

"sad, sad Trekkie." Kind of sums up 90% of the trekkies on any given day.

*ducks and waits for the flames*

I found it odd that he was a canadian. who know he wasn't a scot?

Actually, he was one of the most talented voice actors of his generation... he could put on just about any accent that you'd ever heard convincingly, and many you hadn't. He was also a decorated pilot in WWII for the Canadian military, losing a finger fighting for the good guys.

If I could drink scotch without dire consequences, I would raise my glass. As it stands, I'll have to just settle for some Sam Adams Scotch Ale. Were it not for Scotty, and in part Spock, I'm not sure I would have ever developed the passion for math, science, and the human condition that have led me my current profession which allows me to leverage those fields to help others. Warp 8, Mr. Scott, rest in peace.

I place anonymous comments just below the rhetoric of the DNC...if you want to be taken seriously, have the balls to sign your name.

James Doohan was a character actor...this means he could play characters from many cultures and countries. He wasn't Scottish anymore then Harrison Ford was Corellian.

Oh man I missed that..

I saw him on one of the award shows a few months ago and he looked very unsteady. Sounded like he had maybe had a stroke within the last year or so, spoke very slow and a bit slurred.

He was quite the cunning linguist!

You will be missed.....

I don't believe he had a stroke, but he did have Alzheimer's.
